EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

Posted August 28, 2023

Dear Resident,

As Hurricane Idalia approaches the coast of Florida, it is crucial for each of you to be prepared. We’ve provided some steps to safeguard yourselves, your family, and property.

Below are some essential steps to help you and your loved ones get ready. We encourage you to follow local authorities and news sources for recommended evacuations and guidelines.

1.      Create an Emergency Kit: Put together a kit with essential supplies such as non-perishable food, water, medications, first aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, and personal hygiene items. Also collect important documents such as identification and insurance papers.

2.      Stay Calm and Informed: Monitor local news and weather forecasts to stay updated on Hurricane Idalia’s progress. Follow news social media accounts and subscribe to emergency alerts. During the storm, stay indoors and away from windows. Remember to listen to official instructions from local new sources and alerts regarding evacuations.

3.      Evacuation Preparedness: If authorities recommend evacuation, do so promptly. Pack necessary items and follow recommended routes. We suggest filling your vehicle’s gas tank as well, in case of heavy traffic.

4.      Pet Preparedness: If you have pets, remember to include them in your plans. Pack their essentials including food, water, medications, and comfort items.

5.      Secure Your Home: Bring in outdoor furniture and reinforce windows and doors. Know your local evacuation routes and have a plan for where to go.

6.      Emergency Contacts: Keep a list of emergency contacts including local shelters, healthcare providers, and community resources.

Remember, preparedness is a shared responsibility that enhances community resilience. By taking these steps now, we can face Hurricane Idalia with confidence and ensure the safety and well-being of each of you.

Stay safe and prepared!
